Riding Lessons

We offer saddle seat riding lessons to all levels of riders, from the first lesson to the most advanced rider. You do not have to own your own horse as we have riding programs for the serious show ring competitor as well as for newcomers to the Saddlebred world. In all facets of the learning process, a strong sense of camaraderie, sportsmanship and fun is encouraged. Safety is paramount, and careful thought and consideration is given to horse/rider combinations, and has resulted in positive riding experiences for all. We place special emphasis on both kids and adult riders learning how to properly care for and handle horses, while riding and while grooming.

You will not only learn how to ride, but all aspects of horse care and barn safety. Lessons are given year-round in a heated indoor arena. An outdoor arena is also available. Private lessons are suggested for beginner riders. Group lessons are also available. Anyone ages 5 and up can participate in our lesson program. If you are interested in learning more about lessons, please give us a call and we can help set up the right program for you. We also welcome you to visit our facility, just call us at (414) 248-3436 to set up an appointment. Also, references are available upon request. See our Calendar page for the current lesson schedule.

What horses and riding does...

  • Gets you in shape! Saddleseat riding is great exercise for all ages
  • Positive attitudes & Sportsmanship
  • Showmanship
  • Self-confidence
  • Develop balance & quick responses
  • Develop capability to think on your feet!
We welcome you to visit and join us in discovering the truth in the old saying "There's something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man". And best of all, horses raise great kids!

Our lesson program enables us to offer our riders the opportunity to show. We attend Academy Shows with our students throughout Wisconsin, Illinois and Iowa. Shows vary in size & level of riders. In working with their instructor, each student chooses the shows they wish to attend, which allows flexibility within everyone's busy schedule.

An Academy class is any class offered at a local tournament in which two or more stables are participating, or any class at an open show that is designated "Academy." Participants compete on horses designated as "school" horses, that is, horses that are regularly used in riding lesson program instruction. Acceptable riding attire is jodhpurs or dark pants, boots and dress shirt, or sweatshirt bearing your stable’s logo. Riding habits are unacceptable, and hard hats are optional.

We also travel to Class "A" and Class "B" Saddlebred horse shows throughout the year with the Show Horses. See below for our upcoming show schedule. You can also visit www.HorseShowCalendar.com for details on Saddlebred shows throughout the U.S.! Some of the Wisconsin locations where attend horse shows are State Fair Park in West Allis, Oshkosh and Madison. Illinois locations include Roscoe, Elgin, Belvidere and Springfield.

Visit our Calendar page for our current and upcoming show schedule!

Recognition & Youth Programs
Equitate students are offered the opportunity to particpate in a wide variety of Award and Recognition programs, both on a local and national level. Precisely because of this breed’s suitability for young people, the national American Saddlebred Horse Association has developed an exciting selection of fun, educational programs for youth. Participation in each of these activities, described as follows, is strong and enthusiastic. Get your Saddlebred and come join the fun!

ASHA Academy Medallion Award Program
One example of a strong national program is the ASHA Medallion Awards. The American Saddlebred Horse Association Foundation proudly offers this unique program that encourages and recognizes juveniles and adults participating in Academy classes, which are held at tournaments and horse shows around the country. These classes create an opportunity for beginning saddle seat riders to develop and fine-tune not only their horsemanship skills, but also their sportsmanship, and an appreciation for the American Saddlebred that will last a lifetime.

Riding habits are unacceptable, and hard hats are optional, so if expense is a factor, this may be the division for you!

Junior Judging
The ASHA Junior Judging program was developed specifically to educate youth: to expand their understanding of class and show procedures, conduct, and specifications and priorities for judging the American Saddlebred horse. No matter which aspect of involvement with American Saddlebreds most interests you, expanding your knowledge will accomplish several things, the most important of which will be your own enjoyment of your horse. Secondly, ASHA Junior Judging provides the fun and satisfaction of working with other youth who share your interests. Thirdly, Junior Judges very often discover that their love for judging lasts a lifetime, and that the contributions they can make to the American Saddlebred breed are almost unlimited.
Most of our local Wisconsin shows offer Junior Judging. There is typically no entry fee and you do not need to own a horse to participate. Check with us for details on this fun and educational program!

Other great awards, including sportsmanship recognition and scholarships, are also offered. The opportunities to be involved in the exciting American Saddlebred breed are endless so come join the fun!
